Evernote Spaces: My Predictions

Hi Reader –

Last week, we explored one of Evernote’s biggest feature releases ever — Spaces.

It’s a huge feature because Spaces introduce an entirely new way to structure your work, unlocking more flexibility and organization options than ever before.

Since Spaces launched, Evernote Academy members have been buzzing with ideas — from creating project dashboards to organizing writing research to managing meal planning.

All the questions and ideas I’m seeing highlight how versatile Spaces can be as they can be used for organizing and managing nearly any project.

Today, I’ll share my predictions for the workflows and use cases where I think they will be most impactful.

My Predictions for Spaces

As everyone continues to wrap their minds around the feature, here are ways I see Spaces having the greatest impact for Evernote users.

🔮 Best for Large Projects

Spaces will shine for big projects that span multiple notebooks. Whether you’re managing a complex work initiative or planning a personal project, Spaces brings everything together into one streamlined view.

🔮 Great for Focus

Spaces bring a “dashboard” or “work desk” feel to projects. When designed well, they can help you stay focused and better manage your focus. And, they make it easy to hop between different projects and have them feel “set up” when you return to the. This helps you to dig back into projects with ease.

🔮 Collaboration Potential

Once sharing capabilities roll out (Evernote's confirmed this as a part of the roadmap), Spaces will be the star of collaborative workflows. Sharing a Space will give access to everything in it, and teams will love how easy it is to organize, share, and manage information. I also predict that pinned Space notes will become a key tool for orienting multiple users to a space.

🔮 Notebook Counts Will Grow

I've noticed I’m creating more notebooks to better refine my Space organization and I see this trend continuing. Don’t be afraid to create notebooks — Evernote supports up to 2,000 notebooks per account, so you’ve got room to grow.

🔮 Naming Conventions Organize Spaces

If you struggled with organization before, Spaces won’t solve this challenge. Great organization relies on understanding Evernote’s features and building solid habits — not just using new tools. Applying naming conventions to your Notes and Notebooks will continue to remain a key account maintenance habit, and, just as they help create organization in Stacks, they will make a Space feel organized too.

These predictions are based on my years of experience as an Evernote coach as well my own experimentation with them in my account. If you’re curious, here’s a screenshot of some of the Spaces I’m personally trying out:
